CAD DESIGN
Form Factory specialises in the digital design of smaller, highly functional mechanical parts that solve a problem, allowing us to take an idea and move it one step closer to reality. 3D printing is possible because of CAD, enabling us to cost-effectively and iteratively experiment with both form and function through a digital lens.
FDM 3D PRINTING
Our work is an expression of innovation and creativity — and doesn’t come from open-source platforms. With capabilities of producing bespoke single forms up to 250mm cubed, manufacturing or prototyping using FDM is a time-and-cost efficient process with the choice of filament being fit-for-purpose. While some filaments are light-weight with good mechanical properties and inter-layer strength (like carbon fibre nylon), others match the structural properties of aluminium, are UV resistant, heat-resistant (200°C+), and some are even made from ocean waste.
3D SCANNING
We produce highly detailed 3D scans of forms up to 300mm cubed. This allows us to reverse-engineer existing components and mechanisms before using our CAD and 3D printing capabilities to produce functional replacements of hard-to-find or obsolete elements, fit-for-purpose tooling, or one-of-a-kind innovations that improve upon what’s been done in the past.
